Flora Thompson, 91, passed away on December 27, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard E. Thompson (Montgomery, AL); sister, Norma Dyess (Huntsville, AL); aunt, Bessie Ray Hitson (Georgiana, AL); and uncle, Charlie M. Waller (Montgomery, AL). She is survived by her nephew, George Dyess II (Silena), Huntsville, AL; nieces, Dauna Connell (Randy), Huntsville, AL and Debi Satterfield, Birmingham, AL; great nephews, Parker Satterfield, and Chris Dyess,(Fort Payne, Al); and great niece, Britney Farmer, (Huntsville, Al.); cousins, Ray Hitson (Shirley), Georgiana, AL; and Dolores Crumly (Lamar), Oxford, AL; and second cousins, Carey Moorer (Jeannie), Birmingham, AL, Candy Stacks (Jason), Cumming, GA, Christy Sawyer (Sam), Franklin, TN and Courtney Oliver (Jimmy), Troy, AL; and other cousins and friends.
Flora was born in Greenville, AL on December 11, 1927. After graduating from Georgiana High School in 1946, Flora moved to Montgomery, Alabama where she met and married Richard E. Thompson. Flora began her career in 1954 as a receptionist at Auerbach-Jordan Real Estate Financing Co. In 1992, after 38 years, Flora retired as an Income Property Servicing Officer, from Real Estate Financing, Inc, a division of Regions bank. Flora was well known and respected in the commercial property circles of Montgomery. Flora was a past Matron of Liberty Chapter # 254, Order of the Eastern Star; past President of the Exchangette Club of Montgomery; and a member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem. She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church. Flora was well known by her family and friends for her spirit of helping others and love for her family.
Funeral services for Flora will be Monday, December 31, 2018 at 10 AM at Leak Memory Chapel, with a visitation at 9 AM. Pallbearers will be Carey Moorer, Chris Dyess, James Myrick, Ray Hitson, George Dyess and Jimmy Oliver.
