Elliott Sinclair Mangrum, age 20, departed from this life on Friday, September 24, 2021. Elliott was born June 27, 2001 in Montgomery, Alabama. Elliott was baptized on March 16, 2003 at St. James United Methodist Church, and he attended Christchurch Anglican. He was really outgoing with his friends and would cheer up anyone with his infectious smile.
In 2006, Elliott started out as a Little Dragon in Docarmo’s Taekwondo Center before transferring over to Fleming’s Martial Arts, American Martial Arts Institute (AMAI), where, at age 11, Elliott earned the rank of first-degree black belt. Elliott played many years of Youth AUM Dixie League Baseball (Giants, Dodgers, Orioles, Yankees, Athletics). He also enjoyed playing ultimate frisbee in the Montgomery Ultimate Summer League. Elliott was an avid gamer who loved to play online amongst friends and especially the Call of Duty game series.
Elliott attended Eastwood Christian School from kindergarten through 11th grade and received perfect attendance K-9th grade. He was a member of the Eastwood Cross Country Varsity team for four years (8th-11th) when Eastwood won three consecutive state championships. He also played on the baseball, basketball, and soccer teams for Eastwood.
On March 7, 2019, at the age of 17, Elliott enlisted as an Infantryman in the Alabama Army National Guard. This was one of his proudest moments. He attended the United States Army Infantry School in Fort Benning, GA. Elliott completed Basic Combat Training with Delta Company, 2nd Battalion, 54th Infantry Regiment, 198th Infantry Brigade, on August 16, 2019, and was one of ten awarded out of the company for superior performance by displaying exemplary qualities of a U.S. Soldier. On September 3, 2019, he received his GED to fulfill his educational obligation per enlistment. He then completed Fall Quarter at Troy University at Montgomery.
On September 11, 2020, Elliott graduated from Advanced Individual Training (AIT) while serving with Bravo Company, 3rd Battalion, 54th Infantry Regiment, 197th Infantry Brigade. During his training, Elliott earned recognition as a sharpshooter and received a perfect 300 total score in The Army Physical Fitness Test. After graduation from AIT, Elliott completed Spring Semester 2021 at Marion Military Institute in Marion, AL.
In May of 2021, Specialist (SPC) Elliott Sinclair Mangrum was deployed with Bravo Company, 1-167th Infantry to Xanthi, Greece to train with the Hellenic Army in DEFENDER-Europe 2021 Immediate Response Exercise. Elliott absolutely loved training with the Hellenic Army and loved the countryside. He very much looked forward to future deployments. He loved his military brothers and living a life of service. Upon his return from Greece, Elliott attended Auburn University at Montgomery where he studied Criminal Justice.
Elliott was a great big brother who loved spending time with his younger siblings. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. Loving survivors include his parents, Emily Elliott Harris and Price Andrew Harris; his siblings, Hannah Moats (16), Hartlyn Harris (7), Rhys Harris (5); grandparents, Janet Woodward Elliott and Emmett Sinclair Elliott, Jr.; Dr. Reuben Rhys Harris, Jr. (Jacqueline), Andrea Harris; uncles, Emmett “Woody” Elliott, Denton Elliott (Tamara); Aunt Julie Bowdoin (Harold); as well as seven cousins whom he loved dearly: Ola, Emary, Alex, Abigail, Issac, Trace, & Harris.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday, December 3rd, at Christchurch Anglican located at 8800 Vaughn Road, Montgomery, AL 36117.
