Ria fell asleep In the Lord at Baptist East Medical Center on Thursday, January 10, 2019 with her loving family by her side. Ria was born in Lefkia, Greece to the late Thomas and Anthie Mellos of Epirus, Greece who were proud owners of Montgomery landmark, the Embers Restaurant. Ria is survived by her loving husband, Dennis (Danny) A. Kamburis, her daughter, Angela K. Kleitches (Tom) and beloved granddaughter Demetra Elephteria Kleitches of Charlotte, North Carolina, son Michael T. Kamburis, brother, Angelo Mellos (Karen) and niece, Miranda and nephew, Van, brother in law, Charles Kamburis (Harriette), sister in laws Georgia Kamburis, and Maria Kamburis, Uncle Evanghelos Mellos of Troy, Michigan, and several nieces and nephews. Ria is predeceased by her Uncle and Aunt, Gregory and Mary Mellos, sister in law Anna A. Kamburis, brother in laws John A. Kamburis and Michael A. Kamburis. In 1952, Ria, her parents and brother escaped the communist part of Albania and emigrated to the United States of America. Ria will always be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all. Her beautiful smile was radiated by her jubilant spirit, grace, and kindness. Ria cherished the love of her family, her church and embraced her Greek heritage. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, Massey Draughon Business College and was employed by Paul Corwin Agency and retired from Alabama Concrete Industries Association. Ria was a dedicated and faithful member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation, where she served on the church board and the Ladies Philoptochos Society. Visitation with Trisagion to follow will be held on Sunday, January 13th, from 4 to 6 p.m., at Leak Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, Alabama. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 14th 10:00 a.m. at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation, 1721 Mount Meigs Road, Montgomery, Alabama. Father Paul Costopoulos and Father Paul Ludenburg will officiate the service. The burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial donations to the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation. May her memory be eternal.
