Johnny Douglas Russell Sr., age 90, of Montgomery, Alabama passed away on Sunday, November 14, 2021. Johnny was born September 9, 1931 in Crenshaw County, Alabama to Grover Cleveland Russell and Allie Mae Knighten Russell. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Otis Russell; sisters Mae Bailey and Sue Taylor.
Mr. Russell met and married the love of his life, Luneal Bradly in Crenshaw County and farmed until moving to Montgomery to accept a position of police officer with the Montgomery Police Department retiring as a lieutenant after 23 years of service. Later Mr. Russell then worked with the U.S. Marshal's Service for 14 years. A precious husband and loving father, he is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Luneal and 5 children: Johnny (Betty) Russell, Glenn Russell, Lavonn (Leta) Russell, Gayle (Charlie) Stroud and Scott Russell as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Doug enjoyed hunting and fishing. He always had a bountiful garden, growing vegetables and fruits that he loved to share. Doug was also a faithful member of Panama Street Church of Christ for many years.
A visitation for Johnny will be held Saturday, November 20, 2021 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Leak Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Rd, Montgomery, Alabama 36109. Following the visitation will be a graveside service at 2:00 PM at Greenwood Serenity Memorial Gardens, 909 Lincoln Rd, Montgomery, Alabama 36109.
