Davis, Doris “Doe” Payne, 95, of Montgomery, died peacefully at her home on November 21, 2016. A service will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, November 26 at The First United Methodist Church/Cloverdale Park with Dr. Jeremy Pridgeon and Dr. Karl Stegall officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church Fellowship Hall.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Walter Hiram Davis, Jr., two brothers, and two sisters.
She is survived by two sons, Walter Hiram Davis, III (Patrick) and Albert C. Davis (Cindy); one daughter, Doris Jane Davis; two grandchildren, Kristen Davis Lamb (Carson) and Chad Davis (Hillary); one sister, Rebecca Payne Jones; and numerous Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins.
She was born in Shelby County, AL (Longview) on January 30, 1921 and graduated from Thompson High School where she was Valedictorian of her Senior Class. She went on to earn a degree in Sociology from Alabama College (now The University of Montevallo) in 1946, at which time she moved to Montgomery, where she lived until the time of her death.
