Mr. David B. Bailey, a lifelong resident and native of Cleveland Ohio passed away this week of natural causes, while traveling from his home in Tallahassee FL. to visit Montgomery AL. on Saturday September 9th, 2017. He had spent the last years of his life in Florida with his close friend of 40 years, Michael J. Weltman and wife Michelle. David was 85 years old. David's life started in Cleveland in 1932 as he lived on Delamere Dr., in Cleveland Heights, OH. His father Walter K Bailey, was President / CEO and Chairman of the Board of The Warner & Swasey Company (1955-1967), a leading manufacturer of machine tools based in Cleveland Oh. His Grandfather was L.A. Bailey, founder of the Bailey Company Department Store in Cleveland, (1881-1968) A Yale University Law School graduate and Allegheny College undergrad, who attended Heights High in Cleveland Heights, OH. David's' career started with service in the U.S. Army JAG (Judge Advocate Generals Corps) unit in Paris, France during the end of the Korean War Conflict. Upon Returning to Cleveland Oh, he joined Thompson Hine LLP law firm, and eventually joined National City Banks' legal department, specializing in ERISA / Pension Law. He would go on to retire after 25+ years of service to NCB and then he proceeded to give 100% of his time to civic, political organizations, and Cleveland causes. David was preceded in death by his parents, Walter King Bailey and Marion Clark Bailey, and by his brothers, Robert L., Richard C., and Douglas L. Bailey. He is survived by his sister-in-law Pat Bailey, nieces Janet Cubbage and Kate(Stefan) Roeser, his nephews Bob Bailey of Solon, Don Bailey and Edward Bailey, grandnieces Leigh Anne(Ryan) Langley and Kristin (Scott)McMahon and grandnephews Jim Bailey of Cleveland Heights, Bryce Bailey and Jack Roeser. He is also survived by great grandnieces Lilla and Chamberlain Langley and by great grandnephews Jack Langley and Ladson McMahon. He will be greatly missed by his dear friend Michael J Weltman and his wife, Michelle Weltman, and the Kiner & Saginor Families, who had adopted David, as father, friend, uncle and role model. David served in many local, political and civic organizations. An active member of Republican Party of Cuyahoga County, He also led the 4th Republican Ward Club for 40+ Years. A founding member of the Buckeye Area Development Corporation. Now Buckeye -Shaker Square Development Corporation, a former Lieutenant Governor of Kiwanis in Ohio. Active in the local Shaker Square chapter, and youth group – Key Club, where he mentored young adults and served as a chapter advisor at Benedictine H.S. He most recently served as Cuyahoga County Republican Vice Chairman and Vice Chairman Emeritus, He sat on the board for the Cleveland Housing Network. He worked tirelessly encouraging citizens to get involved civically and to run for political office. He was elected to the State Central Committee of the Ohio Republican Party and was inducted into the Cuyahoga County Republican Hall of Fame. BADCO recently honored his more than 40 years of service to that organization. The Walls of his apartment in Cleveland and in Florida were filled with Proclamations from Governors of OH, State Senators from OH., Mayors of Cleveland OH., thanking David for many years of service to Ohio and to Cleveland as he gave tirelessly of his time. In retirement, David liked to travel. It was one of his goals to visit all of his extended family, in their home states and cities. He was always taking off to Texas or The Carolinas, Washington DC. and Florida to visit friends and family. David defined modesty, humility, selflessness and service to others. He was always about others and never about himself.
