COTTEN, CARL W. (Paw Paw/C.W.) slipped peacefully away into the arms of Jesus on Oct 8, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born on Dec 24, 1932 in Scottsboro AL. After high school, C.W. joined the Air Force and his first duty station was Bryan Air Force Base, Texas where he met and married his wife, Geraldine, who had also joined the Air Force. They were married almost 62 years before she passed away in 2014. C.W. retired from the Air Force in 1971 and from civil service in 1988.
He leaves to cherish his memory his and Geraldine’s three children, Nancy Hover, Carl Cotten, Jr, and Robin Cotten. He also leaves behind three grandchildren Judson Hover, Jessica Cotten, Trey Cotten and 4 great grandchildren Mackensie Cotten, Piper Cotten and Prentice and Cayson Hover.
Visitation will be on Thursday, Oct 12 at the Alabama Heritage Funeral Home Chapel from 12-2 and the funeral immediately following with the Rev Chuck Francisco officiating. Burial will follow in the Alabama Heritage Cemetery with full military honors by the Maxwell AFB AL Honor Guard and taps played by Raymond Keel. Pallbearers will be Don Day, Frank Bertarelli, Ricky Horton, Sam Davis, Rodger Overton, and Jeh Vinson. In lieu of flowers he requested donations, in his memory, be made to the Humane Society of Elmore County, 255 Central Plank Rd, Wetumpka, AL 36092. The US flag that draped his casket was flown over the US Capitol in Washington DC in honor of his birthday in 2009. The family would like to thank Dr Amanda Wilcox, the staff of Gentiva Home Health/Hospice, Kimberly Smith and Tay Curry for their unwavering support during this time and The Patriot Guard for standing watch.
