Billy Ray Cowan

Cowan, Billy Ray 81, a lifetime resident of Montgomery, passed away on April 21, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Ernest and Veleria Curry Cowan, brother Charles Cowan, and brother Hugh Cowan. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gayle Daniel Cowan; son Todd (Wendy) Cowan; son Bryan (Carla) Cowan; grandsons Will Cowan and Bryson Cowan; and granddaughter Brylie Cowan. He was lovingly known as “Bops.” Billy was born in Montgomery, Alabama on February 24, 1941. He graduated from Lee High School in 1959 and then attended Auburn University. He was a member of the Lee High School Marching Band, The Southernaires Dance Orchestra, Auburn University Marching Band, and the Auburn University Knights Jazz Band. He was a charter member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity at Auburn University. He was also a charter member of Dalraida Methodist Church. He was in the forest products business for over 50 years and a managing partner of Cahaba Woodchip, Inc. Billy was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. His outgoing personality and warm smile will be missed. Memorial contributions can be made to the Dalraida Methodist Church. The Celebration of Life Graveside Service for friends and family at 12 in Greenwood Cemetery and the family will receive friends after the service at Leak Memory Sunday April 24, at 1:00 PM
