Bill Campbell was born on January 22nd, 1933. He was born and raised in Brantley, Alabama, to Bertha Wright Campbell and Comer Sikes Campbell. He served in the United States Air Force from 1951 until 1959. Bill married Emma Jean Kidd of Brantley, Alabama, in 1956. They were married for 65 years until her passing in 2021.
Bill dedicated his life to teaching and education. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Troy State College and an Educational Doctorate Degree from Auburn University. He was the Director of Alabama Baptist Children's Home in Troy, Alabama. Bill also served as an educator in Alabama as a high school teacher and coach, a college professor at Mobile College, Troy University and Auburn University, Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean at Mobile College and as Dean of Education at Alabama State University. He also spent time working at the Alabama State Department of Education and was a Baptist Hospice Minister.
Bill was a longtime member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church in Montgomery. He enjoyed working as a high school and college sports official. He loved working in his yard and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a faithful follower of Christ and a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Dr. Bill Campbell is survived by his daughters, Monette Stuart (Mose), Melissa Basso (Miky), Melanie Banks (Stuart); grandchildren, Worth Stuart (Ranie), Murray Stuart, Kirsten Basso, Gil Banks (Anna Katherine) and Campbell Banks; one great-granddaughter, Ellison Banks; sisters, Christine Rooks, Jeanell Roberson (Roby); sisters-in-law, Janet Campbell, DeBitha Harrelson (Alton); and twelve nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his loving wife, Emma Jean Campbell; parents, Comer and Bertha Campbell; in-laws, Reverend and Mrs. Dan Kidd; two brothers, Donald Campbell and Gene Campbell, sister-in-law, Barbara Campbell and brother-in-law, Paul Rooks.
A Graveside Service will be held for Dr. Campbell on Friday, August 23rd, 2024, at 11:45 AM, at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama.
