Robert “Bob” Lee Durrett, 88, of Alabaster, Alabama passed away peacefully Sunday May 29, 2022 with his beloved wife by his side. Bob was born in Straven, Alabama on January 1, 1934, the second oldest of 5 children. He graduated from Thompson High School in 1952. He worked for 37 years with Western Electric/AT&T/Lucent Technologies and if you made a phone call in Alabama during these years, it’s likely that he had a hand in making it work. Bob was an avid golfer, loved sharing stories, dancing & traveling in his younger years, and above all he loved his family and God.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Graves Durrett; sons, Darren Lee Durrett and Eric Scott Durrett (Sonya); grandchildren, Carsyn Lee Durrett, Cory Lee Durrett, Ashley Duffey Grant (Brian), Caity Buford, Cameron O'Daniel, Sophia Glinksy, and Reagan Rayle; great-grandchildren, Kaia Transeau, Laith Grant; daughters-in-law, Karen Wooten Durrett, Hilarie Bologna Durrett; brother, Troy “Tommy” Durrett (Gale); sister-in-law, Faye Bradley Durrett; brother-in-law, Al Miller; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Dylan Michael Mangrum; mother, Annie Lee Hendrix Durrett; father, Charles Edwin Durrett; brothers, William “Bill” Durrett, and James “Jim’ Durrett; sister, Martha Durrett Langston; sister-in-law, Jo Ann Thompson Durrett; and his cherished dog Georgia. The family would like to thank Dr David B. Aizenman for his tireless support and the caring staff of Aspire Hoover.
Visitation will be held on Thursday June 2, 2022 from 11:30 AM until 12:30 PM at Siluria Baptist Church with a graveside service to follow at 1:00 PM at Still Memorial Cemetery in Alabaster, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in Bob’s memory be made to the Siluria Baptist Church at 10696 AL Hwy 119 Alabaster, AL 35007.
