Peggy Ann Gates, age 76, of Helena, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, November 3, 2021. Peggy was born December 16, 1944 to Leo and Annie Mae Powell. She was a school bus driver for many years for Shelby County school system. Peggy was a member of First Baptist Church of Helena. She enjoyed good Southern cooking, Facebook, talking to friends and family daily, and shopping. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild, and was proud of their accomplishments.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas George Gates; son, Thomas Brian Gates; brothers, Miller Jay Powell, Wilmer Kay Powell and William Norris Powell; and brothers-in-law, Robert Garrick and H. P. Gates. She is survived by her daughter, Tara Morrison (Michael); grandchildren, Alex Morrison, and Abbie Morrison; great-grandchild, Thomas Rylen Garner; sisters, Etherene Sirmon (John) and Dorothy Garrick; sisters-in-law, Johnie Dunagan, Evelyn Green, Betty Bradford, and Peggy Gates; numerous nieces and nephews; and close friends, Martha Carroll, Bobbie Carter, Betty White and Daisy Allen.
A visitation for Peggy will be held Saturday, November 6, 2021 from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at Rockco Funeral Home, 3715 Highway 25, Montevallo, Alabama 35115, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM. Peggy will be laid to rest in Dargin Cemetery, Calera, Alabama. The family request guests observe masking protocols. The family requests donations be directed to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at cff.org.
