Sgt. John H. Spearman

Sgt. John H. Spearman, age 73, of Jemison, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2023. John was raised in Gate City, Alabama, one of ten children of Lula Mae Massey Spearman and Charles Orval Spearman. He retired as Sergeant for the United States Marine Corps, then served in the US Army Reserve Forces. He then worked for Altec Industries as a Hydraulic Engineer/Instructor for 38 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed time with his family, tinkering around the house, playing guitar, and watching Alabama football, NASCAR, and wrestling. His best days were spent fishing with his grandson, Dawson Skinner, or enjoying quality time with his granddaughters, Ashley Nicole Shaffer, Savannah Brooke Spearman Wanyoike, Kayla Marie Spearman, and Matthew Spearman.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jonathan Spearman; his son-in-law, Joseph Skinner; his brothers, Charles "Butch" Spearman, David Spearman and Samuel Spearman; and his sisters, Shirley Stone, Barbara Steely, Cathy Caltabellotta, Betty Spearman, Diane Olague and Linda Pool. He is survived by his wife, Linda Holman Spearman; sons, Jeffery Fain Spearman, Michael Shaffer and James Shaffer (Shannon); daughter, Christy Skinner; sisters-in-law, Brenda Holman, Bonnie Spearman and Cindy Spearman; brother-in-law, Sid Steely; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many cousins; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

A visitation for John will be held Friday, May 12, 2023 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Rockco Funeral Home, 3715 Highway 25, Montevallo, Alabama 35115, with a celebration of life service to begin at 12:30 PM. A committal service will occur Friday, May 12, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Alabama National Cemetery, 3133 Highway 119, Montevallo, Alabama 35115. Please dress comfortably in John's memory.
