May 4,1934-April 1, 2013
Ed Zoolalian, proud resident and former councilman of Monrovia, peacefully passed away on April 1, 2013. He was 78 years old. He was a generous and loving husband, father, grandfather and a loyal friend who fought a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease, but never stopped loving life and looking forward to the future with his family.
Ed was born on May 4, 1934, in Newburyport, Mass. He was the youngest of three brothers, Charles and Harold. Their parents, Masis and Haygouhi, had emigrated from Armenia in the early 1900’s. Masis owned and operated his own shoe repair shop for fifty years. Ed was the salutatorian of the Newburyport High class of 1952, graduate of MIT in 1956, and holder of a master’s degree in management from the University of Southern California. He met his French-Canadian wife, Denise Ruel, in Japan while serving in the army. They married in October of 1959 and relocated to Pasadena, CA that same year. Ed knew the moment he arrived that this was the area he would raise his family and spend the rest of his life. Within a couple of years they purchased what would be their lifetime home in Monrovia, CA.
Ed proudly served two terms as City Councilman of Monrovia and during his term he was able to re-develop Huntington Drive into a thriving business center. He loved his career as a manufacturing manager working thirty years with a local electronics firm, Neff Instruments Corp. in Monrovia.
Ed is survived by his wife and three children: Jim of Marina del Rey, Pamela of Pasadena, and Linda of Glendale.
His funeral service will be held this Friday at 2.00 pm in the Chapel at the Turner & Stevens Live Oak Mortuary in Monrovia.
