Dorothy Mae Wells

Born October 19, 1925 –Transition on March 11, 2022

Dorothy Mae Wells was born on October 19, 1925, in Kansas City, Missouri, to John and Lola Baugh. She was the second child of 3 children born to this union. The family worshiped at the Eighth Street Church of God In Christ (COGIC) where she accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and was baptized. Dorothy attended school in Kansas City, Missouri, where she had dreams of being a nurse. Dorothy met her first husband, Robert L. Smith, Sr. and out of this union she had Robert Leroy, Jr., Dorothy Ann, and Lillian Dora. She later married Lloyd E. Wells, Sr. and out of this union there was one son, Lloyd Edward Wells, Jr.

The family moved from Kansas City, Missouri, to Los Angeles, California, in 1961, where she and her husband started a successful family janitorial service. Dorothy and her husband raised 4 children, all of them where college graduates and all went on to work as public servants. Dorothy had a great interest in helping other people and joined the Pasadena Church of God which was pastored by M. Tyrone Cushman, where she served as a deaconess. After the death of her husband, Lloyd Wells Sr., she moved to closer to her family in Los Angeles. She then attended the Upper Room Church of God, and later she moved to Torrance, California and attended First Church of God, Inglewood, California.

Dorothy loved being in church and serving her community. She always had a kind word for others and encouraged the people that she came in contact with to be positive, as she looked for the good in people. She was friendly, compassionate and a giving person and always had a smile on her face. Dorothy was a very social person and she loved family gatherings, reading the bible, doing cross word puzzles, current events, music and dancing, and going to the beach.

On March 11, 2022, Dorothy Wells departed from this life and made a peaceful transition from her labor to her reward. Her father, mother, and 2 siblings, John Baugh Jr. and Lillian Wright, preceeded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her devoted husband, Lloyd E. Wells, Sr. Her eldest son, Robert Leroy Smith, Jr., who passed away on March 14, 2022. Her surviving family which includes, Dorothy Jackson, Lillian Reggans, and Lloyd E. Wells Jr. Her grandchildren were Nina (Gabriel Rosemond), Kim (Harold Young), Robert Lindsey Smith, and Adrienne Smith and 10 great grandchildren, niece Teresa Wright, and nephews Christopher and Nathaniel Baugh and a host of loving relatives and friends.
