Mary Marguerite Cunningham

Mrs. Cunningham is survived by her daughter, Vangie Whitley (Cindy Wallace) of Charlotte; son, Patrick Whitley (Patty Whitley) of Huntsville AL; grandchildren Kelly Whitley Miller (Andy Miller) of Fairview PA; Paige Schwarz, of Grand Junction CO, and Kyle Whitley of Nashville TN and great granddaughters, Norah and Callie Miller of Fairview PA. She is also survived by her sisters Shirley Cockrell of Lancaster SC, Norma Williams of Monroe, and Kathy Uemura of Lancaster SC, brothers Boyce Whitley, Mitchell Whitley and David Whitley all from Monroe and their spouses, children and grandchildren. Mrs. Cunningham is preceded in death by her husband, Conley Cunningham of Indian Trail, father, Boyce Whitley Sr., mother, Ruby (Laney) Whitley, and sister Carolyn (Whitley) Pender.

Mary Cunningham was born on May 2nd, 1939 in Monroe NC. She graduated from Prospect High School in 1957 where she enjoyed cheerleading and “growing up in the 50’s”. She married Lloyd (Gene) Whitley of Monroe NC in 1958 and later married Conley Cunningham of Indian Trail NC in 1983. She was a beautiful southern lady with a sharp wit and tenacious personality.

Mrs. Cunningham was a devoted member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Monroe. She served in many capacities including ministering to the youth, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school, caring for widows and infants.

Mrs. Cunningham was born fourth of eight children. She loved her family dearly and graciously spent her life centered around that family. She loved spending time with her parents, sisters and brothers and their children, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had infinite love and compassion for her family and rejoiced in all their endeavors.

Visitation will be at McEwen Funeral Home, Monroe NC on Wednesday, July 17th, 2019, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. The funeral will be Thursday, July 18th, 2019, at 2:00pm at Shiloh Baptist Church in Monroe NC, followed by internment at Indian Trail Cemetery. A reception will follow at Shiloh Baptist Church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mary Cunningham’s life. The family would like to thank Brookdale Weddington Park assisted living for their exceptional care and compassion, not only for Mrs. Cunningham, but also for her family.
