Born in Monroe, North Carolina, on February 5, 1941, he was the son of the late Ellwyn George Glenn and Lucille Helms Glenn.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his siblings, Robert Glenn, Herman Glenn, and Mary Carson Helms. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Doris Funderburk Glenn; daughter, Jerrie Glenn Stanley and son-in-law, Danny Kaye Stanley. He is deeply missed by his precious grandchildren, Aleisha Danielle Hill (husband, Paul McKayne Hill) and Bethany Glenn Stanley (fiancé, Colby Robert Shaw); great-grandchildren, William Alexander Meyers, Magdalene Ruth Hill, Paul Silas Hill, and expecting the imminent arrival of Eleanor Louise Shaw. He will also be remembered by the many members of his extended family, which he held close to his heart.
Jerry grew up at the Methodist Children’s Home in Winston-Salem with his brothers after the passing of their mother. At the age of 16, he returned to Monroe, where met Doris, the love of his life. Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He continued his work in aviation with Causey Aviation as a mechanic, pilot, and inspector for 45 years with various types of aircraft. He was nicknamed “Mooney Man 1” for his skilled work with that specific aircraft brand.
Jerry was a hardworking and dedicated family man. His main priority was providing for his beloved family, making sure they knew they were loved beyond measure and that only Jesus loved them more. He relished his time spent serving our Lord as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and choir member. Jerry’s service with the Baptist Lay Witnessing Foundation was a very special time for him, where he formed many special friendships.
