James Sidney “Sid” Fletcher, 90, passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2018. He served in the US Navy during WWII. He graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill and Appalachian State Teachers College. He touched many lives as he taught various science courses at Wingate College beginning in 1958. He was born on September 10, 1927 in Elkin, NC. Sidney is survived by his wife of 61 years, Myzelle Stanley Fletcher of Wingate; his sons, Eric (Kathy) and James (Sheila); his grandchildren, Katelyn Fletcher Spurlock, Brendan Fletcher, and Sarah Fletcher; his brothers, David Fletcher (Barbara) and Charles Fletcher (Betty); his sister, Margaret Fletcher Kleber (John); several nieces and nephews, and many friends. He loved to ride his bicycle to work, to swim at the Wingate University pool with dear friends, and he was an active member and avid supporter of Gideons International. His passion was to share his faith in Jesus Christ and his love of God’s Word with anyone he met. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 16 from 1:00-1:45 p.m. at the Wingate Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. A Celebration Service will follow in the church sanctuary at 2:00 p.m. A short graveside service will be held at Lakeland Memorial Park in Monroe following the service.
