James Morris Cox, age 90, of Monroe, passed away at home on April 23, 2015 due to complications of a stroke. He was born on August 22, 1924 in Union County to the late Vernon Hampton Cox and Maggie Inez Pigg Cox.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ney and Donald (infant) and sisters Bernice Chapman, Lois Laney, Ruth McNeely , and Margaret Hunter.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Catherine Chaney Cox, one child Donna Reynolds and her husband Dennis of Monroe; grandchildren, Ashley of Mint Hill and David Reynolds of Charlotte; brothers, Joe of Monroe, Lex of Charlotte, Howard of Matthews and Billy of Monroe; sister, Joyce Greene, and many nieces and nephews.
Morris was a 1942 graduate of Prospect High School in Union County. He worked at Old Dominion Box Company and Parker Brothers Grocery in Charlotte before settling in at the Monroe FCX Store (now Southern States) where he took disability retirement around 1967. When able, he loved doing things on his farm. He was a member of the Rocky River True Light Church of Christ.
Mr. Cox's family would like to thank Golden Heart Senior Care and Hospice of Union County for their care and kindness.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 26, 2015 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe. A graveside service will be held in Walters Family Cemetery on Monday, April 27, 2015 at 2:00 pm.
