He was born in Union County on November 20th ,1956. Greg graduated from Parkwood High School, and soon after, he started his career with the Union County Sheriff’s Office. Greg was married to Jane Knight on February 2nd, 1990. They began their family with Jane’s daughters, Julie, and Jenny, and three years later welcomed Allen’s birth to complete their blended family.
Greg’s law enforcement career spanned 30 years and provided protection to the people of Union County and the surrounding communities. He diligently worked through the ranks to Sergeant and then ultimately rose to the rank of Lieutenant. Greg was honored and proud to serve and protect his community and hometown. After his retirement, Greg was able to faithfully serve the Lord and his church family as an active deacon, first at Calvary Baptist Church, and proudly for the last 12 years at Lee Park Baptist Church in Monroe.
Greg had a true passion for softball. He enjoyed traveling with special police softball teams to the Police Olympics, as well as many church softball teams. He earned the nickname “Sweat Hog”, from his teammates who played as many as 7 games any given Saturday and noted his perspiration from giving his all every inning. As a catcher and home run hitter, it was his goal to hit at least one pitch out of the park every game.
