Ercel Godwin Simpson

Ercel Godwin Simpson, 91, of Monroe passed away February 24, 2017 after a short stay at the Hospice House in Monroe. She was a resident at Jesse Helms Nursing Home for 3 1/2 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Lloyd Simpson, her parents Colon Baucom and Sandy Damascus Godwin, infant daughter, Susanne Simpson, brothers, Parks & Cecil Godwin and sister, Florence Godwin.

Surviving her are her daughter, Sylvia Simpson Walker (Buddy), son, Sandy Simpson, daughter, Teri Simpson Mason (Craig) and daughter, Skyla Simpson Anderson (Doug). Grandchildren, Alison Walker Priory, April Walker, Joseph Simpson, Dustin Simpson, Shane Simpson, Bailey Mason, Madison Mason and Kelly Lowery Gouch. Great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Madeline Priory, Savanna Simpson, Bryar and Avery Gouch.

Mrs. Simpson was an excellent seamstress, cook and gardener. She enjoyed crafting and growing flowers. She loved her God and her church. Many nights we saw her reading her Bible and her work ethic was inspirational. Her home was always open to others in need and she enjoyed cooking for her family on holidays. We are rejoicing that she is in Heaven with her family.

We are especially grateful for the loving care that was given to her while at Jesse Helms. She told us over and over that she couldn’t have been in a better place and that they took such good care of her.

A celebration of her life will be on Tuesday, February 28, 1:30 pm at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 4013 New Town Road, Waxhaw, NC 28173. Visitation will be at the church at 12:30 before the service. Burial will be at Sharon Memorial Cemetery, at the corner of Sharon Amity Road and Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Oak Grove Baptist Church. McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe is serving the family of Mrs. Simpson.
