Doris Marie Clawson Simpson, 88, passed away on March 5, 2018. She was born October 26, 1929 in Union Co, NC to Edmond Worth Clawson and Lula Richardson Clawson. Doris was a homemaker while her children were young and worked outside the home later. She was employed for more than 30 years at Acme Nameplate of Monroe, where she retired as a department supervisor. Doris and Ed were married May 1, 1948 and would have been married 70 years May 1, 2018. She was blessed with a long and healthy life, which allowed her to enjoy many exciting adventures, traveling with her husband and friends as well as with groups through Burke Travel, Christian Tours, the Cattleman’s Association, and the Union County Senior Center. Doris and her husband participated in worship and developed strong ties with the congregations at New Hope Methodist, West Monroe Baptist, and Calvary Baptist churches through the years. Each held a special place in her heart. During her free time, Doris spent many hours participating at churches, the Union Co. Community Health Services, American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), the Union Co. Board of Elections, the Democratic Party, Council on Aging, Union Co. Senior Center, and the American Red Cross (donated 100 pints). Whenever possible, she enjoyed spending time with her two grandchildren, doing elaborate jigsaw puzzles, or simply sitting outdoors to enjoy beautiful natural surroundings of the area where she grew up, like her parents, grandparents and great-grandparents before her. Doris is preceded in death by her older sister Clara C. DiBernardo (husband Tony DiBernardo), older brother John Homer Clawson and younger brother Edmond Worth Clawson, Jr. (wife Jean M. Clawson). She is survived by her husband Edward Lee Simpson, daughter Martha Simpson Wolf (husband Keith W. Wolf, Jr.), son Douglas Edward Simpson (wife Pat C. Simpson), granddaughter Hope Marie Wolf, grandson Dr. Alexander K. Wolf, her dear sister-in-law, Adelaide Clawson and nine dear nieces and nephews. Her family wishes to thank Dr. David Allison, her Primary Care Physican, and the staff of Novant Health Monroe for many years of excellent health care as well as the staff of Wood Haven Court Assisted Living Center of Albemarle, NC for their care in recent months, and Pastor Johnanna Miller of New Hope United Methodist Church, Monroe, NC, for her spiritual support. Memorials may be made to the Women’s Missionary Union of New Hope United Methodist Church, 3221 Plyler Mill Road, Monroe, NC 28112. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, March 10 at 1:00 pm at New Hope United Methodist Church followed by a gathering of friends in the Fellowship Hall.
