She was born in Monroe, North Carolina on December 28, 1947; the daughter of the late Edward and Beulah Gurley.
Mrs. Helms is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Allen Helms; brothers, Howard Gurley and Kenneth Gurley; and sisters, Paula Benton and Vicky Gurley. She is survived by her sons, Chad Gurley and Tim Helms; daughter, Vicky Welch; grandson, Joshua Helms; brother, Wilson Gurley; and sisters, Gail Knight and Gypsy Helms.
Dixie's Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe, located at 204 South Main Street, Monroe, North Carolina. Visitation will be held from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm followed by a "Going Away" Party at 1:15 pm in the McEwen Colonial Chapel. Interment will then follow at Hill Family Cemetery. Everyone is welcome to come be a part of her Heavenly send off.
