David Olin Smith

He was a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. David was born on April 29, 1949, to Olin and Vadine Smith. He was a graduate of Sun Valley High School and an Army Veteran who served during the Vietnam War as well as special forces military police. David enjoyed spending time outdoors and loved to go fishing. He was a very special man and will be truly missed by so many who knew and loved him.

David is preceded in death by his father, Olin Smith; and niece, Chrissy Smith. He is survived by his mother, Vadine Smith; children, Brian Smith and Joy Mataya; grandchildren, Brandon Smith (Ashley), JJ Mataya, Brittany Smith (Walter Cheval), Jhanna Mataya, and Justice Mataya; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Smith, Bradley Smith, Walter Cheval, Walker Cheval, and Brayden Smith; brothers, Ronnie Smith, Rodney Smith, and Tim Smith; and nephews, Terry Smith, Dusty Smith, and Bucky Smith.

A Celebration of Life with military honors will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 1:00 pm at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe, located at 204 South Main Street, Monroe, North Carolina.
