He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 42 years, Earlene B. Furr.
Mr. Furr was born in Stanley County, NC on May 18, 1936. Mr. Furr was the son of the late Webb and Zillie Clontz Furr. He served in the United States Army and after his service, he worked in the field of Insurance until he retired at age 62. His hobbies included gardening, bird watching, and television shows… particularly old westerns and game shows. His favorite pastime was spending time with his family, both in person and by nightly phone calls. He was a loving father, grandfather and brother.
Mr. Furr is survived by his five children, Buren “Lee” (Lisa) Furr Jr., Darlene Burleson, Angie ( Mark) Thomas, Sonya Griffin and Kim (Rusty) Harvey; his grandchildren Rachael Harvey, Laurel (Kyle) Austin, Tim (Kensley) Griffin, Jessica (Anthony) Perez, Andrew Furr, Amber (Bryan) Burleson, Trisha (Mark) Kimrey, Clint (Lynn) Thomas and Kevin (Erin) Thomas, and twenty-four great grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, Doris (Ralph) Teague, Coy Furr, Frank (Delorce) Furr, Boyce (Peggy) Furr, and Delorce Tomberlin. He was preceded in death by his brother, Boyd “Teak” Furr and son-in-law Dale Burleson.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025, at 11:00 am at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe, located at 204 South Main Street, Monroe, North Carolina. Funeral service to follow in the McEwen Colonial Chapel at 12:15 pm with Pastor Jeff Whitecotton officiating. Interment with military honors will then follow the service at Lakeland Memorial Park, Monroe N.C.
