Born August 23rd, 1931, she was the first child of G.C. and Arlie Helms. She had two brothers, Ronnie Helms and Mike Helms who preceded her in death and a sister Johnny Jean Aycoth who resides in Monroe.
The funeral service will be 3:00 pm Saturday February 1st at Mt Carmel United Methodist Church. The family will visit with friends for one hour prior in the churchs' Family Life Center.
Boots will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 70 years, Wade; their son, Phillip and his wife Joyce; and two grandchildren, Catherine Gray (Hamilton) and David Broome (Alycia Trapp).
Boots lived a rich life blessed with many friends. She worked for a time in the admitting office of Union Memorial Hospital where she enjoyed meeting all the people that passed through. She later worked as secretary at Walter Bickett School where she retired after 20 years. During that time she became the "daytime mom" to many young children. It always made her feel proud when, years later, someone would introduce themselves and say they remembered her from their childhood.
When they were married, Boots began attending Mt. Carmel Methodist Church with Wade. Many of her deepest friendships originated there and remained with her throughout her life. Until the end she cherished those friends and the memories of things like bazaars, camping, traveling, and just being with people who loved and cared about each other so deeply.
The family sends special thanks to Sybil Helms and her family, including daughters Mica, Sheila, and Molly, for the compassion they have shown throughout Boots' illness.
McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe is honored to serve the Broome family.
