She grew up on Macedonia Church Road and picked cotton as a child and worked on a small farm that her dad owned. She was a seamstress for many years and later in her elderly years suffered from dementia which eventually led to her suffering from Alzheimer’s disease as well as other health issues.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, James Dwight Drake; four brothers, Roy Cuthbertson, Bruce Cuthbertson, Parks Cuthbertson, and Luther Cuthbertson; and 1 sister, Ellen Cuthbertson. She is survived by her sons, Gary and Ronnie Drake; sister, Nancy Jordan, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews along with her caretakers, Judy Baucom and Linda Cordle.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at McEwen Funeral Home in Monroe, NC from
1:00pm to 1:45pm. A service to celebrate her life will be held following the visitation at 2:00pm in the McEwen Colonial Chapel. Burial will then follow at Lakeland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers contributions and memorials can be made to Alzheimer’s Disease Research.
