Michael J. Vojtek Jr, age 80, of Bridgeport, beloved husband of the late Bonnie D. Vojtek, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2018. Michael was born May 10, 1937 in Bridgeport, CT to the late Michael and Anna Vojtek and has been a lifelong area resident. Michael graduated from Harding High School in 1955. After graduating, Michael joined the Army National Guard for 6 years, while working for Sikorsky Aircraft, and later opening his own business, Avon Painting. After selling the business, he then began working at the Southern Connecticut Gas Company as a service technician. Michael spent 25 years with the gas company, creating many memories and long-lasting bonds, none more special than the one with his wife Bonnie who he wed in 1980.
Michael loved traveling with Bonnie and their close friends, frequently traveling throughout New England and Canada. He was an avid gardener, growing a vegetable garden every year from seeds he started growing in the basement during the winter months. He will always be remembered for his excellent hot peppers. Michael loved working with his hands to create furniture and a number of decorative pieces. He was recognized for incredibly detailed Christmas displays in the front windows of his home. After retiring, Michael honed his baking skills at home and created a carrot cake recipe that was loved by all.
Michael was a devoted husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed. In addition to his loving wife Bonnie of 38 years, he was predeceased by his son John, and brother Ronald. Michael is survived by his siblings, Shirley Sedlock, Patricia Cutrufello (Paul), Eileen Murray, Richard Vojtek (Marianna), his children, Robert Purciello (Felicia), Cheryl Mucherino (Pat), Mark Vojtek (Karen), grandchildren, Patrick (Ana), Bobby, Brittany, Ashley, Ryan, Samantha, Alexis, Mark, Stephanie, and Matthew.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, April 28, 2018, at 10 AM at St. Margaret Mary Church, Shelton, CT. Burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull, will immediately follow mass.
Family will receive friends Friday, April 27, 2018, from 5 PM to 8 PM at the Spadaccino and Leo. P. Gallagher Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, CT.
