William Harker Yost Jr., 88, loving husband, father, mentor, and friend, died Thursday, July 21, 2022 following a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. A native Mobilian, William "Billy" was born on November 7, 1933.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Harker Yost and Martha Elizabeth Whitehead Yost; sister, Marilyn Yost Kruse; and two brothers, Steve and David Yost.
He is survived by his wife, Joan C. Yost; daughter, Linn Yost Ayers; son-in-law, David Ayers; and grandsons, Andrew and Bryan Ayers; son, William Carl Yost.
He graduated from Murphy High School in 1951 and earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Auburn University as well. He also earned the rank of Captain in the US Army, after which he actively served until the Korean War Ended.
Billy enjoyed many years being employed at Parker Towing Company, not retiring until he was 80 years old. He was a well-known businessman in Mobile and surrounding areas.
Billy was a lifelong Episcopalian and a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He enjoyed water sports as well as hunting and fishing.
He loved music of all kinds and had a natural talent for dancing. Billy and his wife, Joan, enjoyed belonging to the Azalea Ballroom Dance Club and were active dancers for many years where they knew many friends who were fellow dancers.
Visitation will be held from 12:30-1:30 PM on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at Radney Funeral Home, 3155 Dauphin Street, Mobile, AL 3660, prior to interment at Pine Crest Cemetery, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, AL 36605 at 2:00 PM.
