William "Bill" Maynard Heard Jr., age 96, of Fairhope, Alabama passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2022. William was born Thursday, June 24, 1926 in Mobile, Alabama to the late William Maynard Heard, Sr. and Bessie Viola Williams Heard. Bill served this grateful nation by enlisting with the United States ARMY during WWII. He left the ARMY and enlisted with the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict as a 1st Lt. in JAG Corps. Bill attended the University of Alabama as an undergrad and graduated from University of Alabama Law School. He worked at Title Insurance Company of Mobile for more than forty years and was the President of the company when he retired. Bill was a member of the Alabama State Bar Association and Mobile Bar Association for over fifty years. He was a faithful member of Dauphin Way Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, taught Sunday school, and sat on the Dauphin Way Baptist Church Legal Committee. Bill served with various civic organizations to include the Mobile Jaycees. He was a model train enthusiast, was handy at building things, restoring furniture and renovating homes. Bill was always busy working on projects - He always liked to "fix" things. He was a wonderful storyteller and will be remembered for his great dry sense of humor.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; two wives: Helen Virginia Burgins Heard, and Patricia Ann Conkin Heard.
Left to cherish Bill's wonderful memories will be his wife, Barbara Jean Mernick Heard of Fairhope, Alabama ; two children: Marilyn Kay Heard Evans (George) of Montgomery, Alabama, W. Kenneth Heard (Marian) of Fairhope, Alabama; one stepdaughter, Patricia "Patty" L. Macon of Spanish Fort, Alabama; four grandchildren: Thomas Powell Eubands (Kristy) of Fairhope, Alabama, George Andrew Evans (Astrid) of Montgomery, Alabama, Mary "Ginny" Virginia Heard Hutter (Mark) of Fairhope, Alabama, Patricia "Claire" Heard of Birmingham, Alabama; one step-grandson, Robert "Ben" Benjamin Macon of Spanish Fort, Alabama; five great-grandchildren: Aason Andrew Evans of Montgomery, Alabama, Ethan Aurey Evans of Montgomery, Alabama, Parker Cornelius Eubanks of Fairhope, Alabama, Helen Margot Hutter of Fairhope, Alabama, Harvey McAuley Hutter of Fairhope, Alabama; along with many extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.
Honoring Bill as pallbearers will be Thomas Eubanks, Mark Hutter, Ben Macon, Kenny Norris, and John Tait.
A visitation for William will be held Tuesday, July 26, 2022 from 1:00 PM until time of service at 2:00 PM at Radney Funeral Home-Mobile, 3155 Dauphin Street, Mobile, AL 36606.
Interment will immediately follow on the grounds of Pine Crest Cemetery, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, Alabama 36605.
