Thomas Marlowe Galloway, a native Mobilian, passed away at home on March 31st. He graduated from Murphy High School in 1940, and is in the Murphy High School Hall of Fame for 2018. He graduated from Auburn University in 1946. His college education was interrupted by World War II, where he served in the European Theater. He was a forward observer in the 109 Field Artillery. During the Battle of the Bulge, he was captured and held prisoner in Hammelburg, Germany. He attained the rank of Major and was in the National Guard for many years. He was featured in the Ken Burns World War II documentary, The War. Tom graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1949, and served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Alabama for 3 years in Montgomery. Upon his return to Mobile, Tom started the law firm of Collins, Galloway, and Murphy, where he practiced for over 50 years. He was a member of the Mobile County Bar Association, the State of Alabama Bar Association, an organizer of the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association, and commander of the American Legion. Tom was an active member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church and a charter member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. Tom was known for his quick wit and sense of humor. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Irma Roberts Galloway. He is survived by his wife, Alma Gholston Galloway, and his 3 sons, Thomas Marlowe Galloway, Jr., Robert Michael Galloway (Annie Hunter), and Joseph Warren Galloway, M.D. (Lee Ann). He is also survived by his 9 grandchildren, Missy Galloway Collins, D.M.D. (Tom), Thomas Marlowe Galloway, III (Carol), Michael Acker Galloway (Kristi), Jennie Galloway Milling (Russell), Hunter Galloway Jones (Casey), Kathleen Galloway Collins (Trey), Ann Stewart Galloway, Charlotte Bristow Galloway, Joseph Warren Galloway, Jr., and 4 great grandchildren. The visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ignatius Catholic Church on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. The burial will follow in Old Springhill Cemetery.
