Stella peacefully passed away on May 1, 2023 surrounded by her family; her son, Harry (Emily) Chronas, her daughter Elaine (Dale) Greenstein and her granddaughter, Ainsley Greenstein. Stella was thrilled to be the central figure in the lives of her family. Anyone who knew her would know that family is all that mattered to her.
Stella was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on November 23, 1930 to parents Gust and Evanthia Dandos. She moved to Mobile 75 years ago, where she met her husband, Steve Chronas, who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her sister Mary, brother Peter, and brother Michael.
Together with her husband, Stella was widely known in the restaurant business. She was associated with the Belmont, Harry’s Restaurant, and was the owner-operator with her family of the Royal Knight Restaurant and Pier 4 Restaurant. Stella had a deep faith in God, a loving spirit and faced each life challenge with strength and grace. She loved to help others and regularly volunteered with Church activities, was a member of the Philoptochos Society, and Daughters of Penelope. Stella was one of the Charter Members that supported the early beginnings of Penelope House. Stella was an exceptional wife and mother and she will be greatly missed by her family, close friends, nieces, cousins and neighbors.
The Visitation and Funeral will be held on Friday, May 5, 2023 at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church on 50 South Ann Street, Mobile Alabama. Visitation from 9:00AM to 10:00AM, and Funeral Services will follow at 10:00AM. Interment will be at Pine Crest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church of Mobile, Penelope House or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
