Ruth Trobaugh Eddins, 92, a resident of Westminster Village in Spanish Fort, AL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 25, 2015, after a short illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Henry Earl Eddins, Jr.; parents John Ralph Trobaugh and Morris Agnes Carty; daughter, Diane McGarity; grandson, Shaun O'Neal McGarity; and sister, Jessie Brooks.
Ruth was born in Murphysboro, IL and grew up in Salem, IL. She was a graduate of Salem High School and attended Asbury College in Wilmore, KY. In 1948, she married Henry Eddins and served faithfully by his side through his 47 years as a pastor in the Alabama-West Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church. A music enthusiast, she would often be found in the choir, playing Handbells, flute or piano, or her most beloved hobby of Line Dancing. In 2002, she and Henry moved to Westminster Village in Spanish Fort to complete their retirement where she devotedly participated in the Line Dancing group that she help found a Line Dancing group that she devotedly participated in and often led several days a week, even immediately preceding her death. Ruth lived an active life participating in many groups including the Wesley Heirs, the Joy Fellowship Sunday School class at Spanish Fort United Methodist Church, and The Breakfast Bunch and The Breakfast Buddies both at Westminster Village.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Sondra Teate and husband Joe of Point Clear, AL; grandson, Joe Teate, Jr. of Alpharetta, GA; granddaughters, Karen Teate Bailey and husband Jason of Hoover, AL and Meagan McGarity of Prattville, AL; great-granddaughter, Kira Madeline Bailey of Hoover, AL; brother Bob Trobaugh and wife Rachel of Racine, WI; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends at the Spanish Fort United Methodist Church in Spanish Fort, AL on Saturday, August 29, 2015, from 12:30 to 2:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at 2 pm. The Reverend Bill Price and The Reverend Dr. Debora Bishop will officiate. Graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Montgomery, AL, on Monday, August 31, 2015 at 2 pm.
