Roy Edward Johnson – a 78 year-old native of Holland, OH and resident of Grand Bay, AL passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2011. Mr. Johnson retired from the United States Army at the rank of Sergeant 1st Class after many years of service including tours of duty during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was also a former employee of Ingall’s Shipbuilding. Mr. Johnson will always be remembered as a good Christian man, for his hard work ethic, and as a very kind person who was loved by many. He was preceded in death by his son, James A. Johnson. Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Johnson; children, Fred Johnson (Suzanne), John Johnson, and Mary Mathis (Terry); sister, Carol King; eight grandchildren, Troy Johnson, Charles Johnson (Cassie), Terry Mathis, Jr., Starla Johnson, Brad Johnson (Nichole), Robert Johnson (Charlan), Craig Mathis, and Rachel Johnson; four great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 12 noon. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, September 2, from 5-8 p.m. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
