Ronald Gene Noland, age 80, a native of Baton Rouge LA, passed away August 3, 2016, at his residence in Mobile, AL. Ron was an associate professor in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching at Auburn University for twenty-four years, retiring in 1991. Later, he served on the faculty of Springhill College in Mobile for ten years.
He received his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree at Louisiana State University. He earned his doctorate from the University of Southern Mississippi. After participating in the ROTC program at LSU, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1958, and was stationed in various locations in the U.S. and Japan. After retiring from the Air Force Reserves at the rank of Colonel, he served with the Alabama State Defense Force from 1998 to 2010, retiring at the rank of major general. He received the ASDF Mize Award of Excellence in 2011.
He was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Scottish Society of Mobile, the Friendly Sons or Ireland, Mobile Mardi Gras society, and ABBA Shrine Temple.
He is survived by his wife, Monetta Moak Noland, his son, Tim Noland and wife, Lia, his grandsons, Bishop and Liam Noland, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellis and Lillian Noland, his brother, Dale Noland, and his sister, Betty Noland Langlois.
Services will be on Saturday, August 6, 2016, at 11 a.m. from St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
