Richard William “Bill” Richards died on Friday, February 18, 2022, after a long battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, Janden; a daughter, Karin; and two grandchildren, Emily and Michael.
A graduate Industrial Engineer, Bill attended Youngstown State University and the University of Toronto, and was an Engineering Officer in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He worked as a Division Industrial Engineering Manager for the Kohler Company. He was also Division V.P. of operations for Litton and Burlington Industries.
Tired of corporate life, Bill and his wife, Janden, who worked for Hallmark’s Crayola Division, moved to Lancaster, PA and bought a small specialty food business. They loved Lancaster, and their relationship with Central Market as well as the Amish Community with whom they worked.
Finally, in the early 90’s, tired of snow and ice, they moved to Mobile, AL, closer to his wife’s family. Bill spent his remaining years working for the Carell Corporation as General Manager and in sales.
Bill was very active in Mobile Mardi Gras as a member of one of its older masking societies. He loved to play golf and tennis as well as swimming, running, and biking. He was an advanced open water scuba diver and explored many Atlantic shipwrecks.
Bill and Janden owned a condo in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico that they enjoyed for many years with family and friends. In recent years, they have been spending a couple of weeks a year in New York City, enjoying the museums, galleries, opera, ballet and Broadway shows.
Private services will be held at a later date. Condolences may be offered at www.radneyfuneralhome-mobile.com.
