Richard Brian Green, 53, a native of Chunchula, Alabama and resident of Citronelle, Alabama transitioned to the next life on Monday, September 26, 2022 at his home. Richard embraced life and never gave up his fight for almost four years against esophageal cancer until he won the battle. He fought against the dreaded disease with every ounce of energy that he had until the very end.
Richard graduated from Citronelle High School in 1987 and formed friendships with so many that lasted for over four decades. After high school, Richard attended college and became a draftsman working with Bender Shipbuilding, Austal, Hargrove and independently through his company, Man of Steel Design. He traveled and worked across the United States, specifically Alaska, designing structures in very prominent buildings. Richard’s attention to detail and his pursuit of perfection was evident in his jobs which made him sought after across the country. Richard was very proud of his work. Richard also enjoyed hunting, fishing, restoring old cars, traveling, and Thai cuisine. He was a collector of guns, knives and random, yet innovative, gadgets. He loved to search the internet for bargains and frequently shopped at Harbor Freight and Walmart. Richard loved to play the guitar and was known for his Stevie Ray Vaughn style of playing. He was so proud of his midnight blue Gibson Les Paul limited edition guitar that he received as an anniversary gift. Richard’s favorite hangout spot was Veet’s and throughout the years, he enjoyed helping other musicians develop their own style of playing. It was at Veet’s that he took a chance and asked someone to meet for a date and listen to some music. Little did he know, that girl turned out to be the love of his life. Their love for each other and happiness was evident from day one. Richard’s other passion was riding his Harley Davidson Street Glide. In 2019, he completed the Tail of The Dragon despite his physical condition. He and Shea would share many adventures and saw amazing sights while riding the Harley.
Richard was a funny, unique, one-of-a-kind guy whose smile would light up a room. Richard’s witty, yet twisted, sense of humor has kept people laughing to this day. To know Richard was to love him and he will be dearly missed. Richard has left a huge void in our lives. His fight for life and his love for Shea has been an inspiration to others. He will always be known for his own style, the legendary chop sideburns and his generosity. He silently helped others and those gestures will never be forgotten.
Richard had a kind, sensitive heart and had a true love for animals, specifically cats. He was often called a cat whisper (because of his resemblance to Jackson Galaxy) or Cat Daddy. He was a great cat dad to MiMi, Buddy, Lu, S-Cat and Oreo. And of course, we can’t leave out his pups, Gauge, Jenna and Ivy.
Richard was preceded in death by his father, Sherwood Green; grandparents, Nettie and James Amason and Roy and Roxie Bishop.
Those left to cherish his memory include his soulmate and his “person”, Shea Gardner; beloved mother, Kathy Green; devoted brothers, Samuel Lynn Green (De) and Danny Green (Jennifer); nieces, Kayla Williams (Justin), Hannah Green, Danielle Green and Jenna Green; great nephew, Bradon Williams; great niece, Maggie Williams; aunt, Pat Spurling; uncle, Carlton Bishop (Shirley); cousins, a host of others whom he considered family; and friends across the country.
