Rebecca Susan Anderson Ivy, age 65, peacefully passed away March 16, 2020. Becky was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was born April 24, 1954 in Mobile, Alabama to Obadiah Cecil and Mary Marvin Sproles Anderson. She married the love of her life and best friend, Richard George Ivy on August 30, 1975.
Becky was meticulous about her smocking and French hand sewing. For many years she shared her talent by teaching others the craft. Her passion was fashion. From children’s’ heirloom dresses to red accessories and jeans to bohemian-style.
Her Christianity was very meaningful to her. She studied her bible even at the hospital. Spirituality was visible in her daily conversations with people. Anytime there was a need she wouldn’t hesitate to grab the nearest person or two to have a prayer with a gathering of 3 or more. Becky was proud of her membership to Government Street Presbyterian Church, where her mother and grandmother were also members. Still today, her husband, children, and grandchildren are members as well.
She was a one of a kind, spunky, self-proclaimed “hippie.” She had a huge heart and loved expressing it through her membership to Beta Sigma Phi, Laureate Sigma Chapter. She spent hours, even into the late night, working on crafts or projects to meet her own high standards. Crafts were a serious art to her.
Her entire life revolved around volunteering. She brought her children around with her to deliver meals-on-wheels to the homebound and to serve at Crawford Park in the late 70’s. Then, as Rachael and Cory grew, she immersed herself with their lives. She held office in the Dodge PTO, held fundraisers, put on makeup and did hair for ballet performances, traveled all over for softball tournaments, and many, many more activities.
Becky is the devoted wife of Richard Ivy, loving mother of Rachael Ivy Kramer and husband Thomas Kramer, Corinne Ivy Lorge and husband Toby Lorge. She is the sister of Marvin Anderson and wife Denise Anderson. Becky is the treasured G.B. of Emily Nelson, Mickie Lorge, Laura Nelson, Susan Lorge, and Becca Lorge. Aunt of Catherine Justice Anderson and Edward Anderson.
Visitation will be held at the Radney Funeral Home, 3155 Dauphin Street on Thursday, March 19 from 4-8 pm. Graveside services will begin at Serenity Memorial Gardens, 8691 Old Pascagoula Rd., at 10 am on Friday, March 20. A Christian memorial service will follow at 11:30 in the Government Street Presbyterian Church sanctuary.
