Raymond Kent Robinson, Sr., 92, passed away on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 in Mobile, Alabama. He was born to William and Alice Stovall Robinson in Mobile, Alabama on June 4, 1929. Ray attended Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, Alabama, where he was a star baseball and basketball player - talents that led him to receiving an athletic scholarship from South Georgia, where he continued to excel in both sports. He served with the United States Air Force. Ray began working with Goodyear, and eventually branched out to open his own tire store: Quality Recapping. Quality Recapping grew into a chain of tire stores called Auto Sav, which spanned across the Southeast. He was the ultimate entrepreneur and businessman.
He, as well as his late wife Louise Robinson, had been active members of Creekwood Church of Christ (Sage Avenue Church of Christ), since the 1960’s, where Ray taught adult Bible classes. He was an avid study of the Gospel. Ray was a huge fan of the University of Alabama’s football team (Roll Tide!), but his true life’s passion was bass fishing - a sport in which he was also incredibly gifted. He enjoyed playing golf, and won multiple trophies throughout the years. Ray was a man of great character. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and will be greatly missed.
Ray joined his wife of 66 years, Louise Robinson.
He is survived by his son Kent; grandchildren, Mary Kent, Allen, and Scott; and great-granddaughter, Catherine.
Visitation for Ray will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2021 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., services concluding in a chapel service at 11 a.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home.
