Polly Byrd Barthlett Roads – an 86 year-old native and longtime resident of Mobile and current resident of Seminole, FL passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2013. Mrs. Roads retired from civil service after 20 years of service as a clerk for the U.S. Air Force. She was charter member of Seven Hill Baptist Church who loved and trusted the Lord completely and possessed a keen memory as evidenced by her ability to recall the lyrics to any hymn. She was a true Southern Baptist lady, but was a “steel magnolia.” A true role model, she taught many young women how to be good mothers, wives and cooks by her example. She was an excellent cook who loved sweets, was talented in craftwork and enjoyed crossword puzzles. She always celebrated holidays and birthdays with fervor, never gave advice unless asked, and loved her family and friends fiercely. Although she buried her husband, Ellis Lee Barthlett, Sr., and three sons, Ellis Lee Barthlett, Jr., Donnie Barthlett, and Steven Roads, she never felt sorry for herself, and we know she is with them and her Lord and Savior today, celebrating. Mrs. Roads is survived by two children, Katrina Barthlett and Edwin Barthlett (Sherma); four grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Monday, February 11, 2013, at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the service hour. Interment will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be offered at www.mmgfuneralhome.com. Arrangements by Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 6040 Three Notch Road, Mobile, Alabama 36619.
