

Peter E. Zalopany, Jr. 59, a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama, passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 1, 2025. Peter, the 4th of 5 children, was born on October 23, 1965, to Peter E. Zalopany, Sr. and Marie Butler Zalopany. He graduated from McGill Toolen Catholic High School and was a track and field champion. He remained a running sensation while he attended Ole Miss. When he returned to Mobile, he started his career in the flower business. After working at Zimlich Brothers for a number of years, he left to join his father in the third-generation family business, American Window Cleaning, taking over the business when his father retired. He was a member of the Order of Osiris Mardi Gras Organization for over 37 years where he served on the board of directors in various roles including president numerous times and Ball Captain three times. He held the distinct honor of being one of only two people in club history to be crowned monarch twice as well as being one of four to have been chosen to be all three emblems. Very active in the community, Peter chaired the very first AIDS Walk raising a record amount of money for Mobile AIDS support Services. Peter bought his first (and only) house at the ripe old age of 21 and fell in love with his Oakleigh Garden District and remained at the same home until his death, earning him the title of “Mayor of Charleston Street.” Peter could be found most mornings attending the 6:00 a.m. mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he was a parishioner.
Peter was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Thomas F. and Theodosia Frances Bowles Butler; paternal grandparents: Peter and Mercedes Zalopany; father: Peter E. Zalopany, Sr., Aunt Mercedes Maria "Mitzi" Wolfarth and nephew Stephen Nicholas Zalopany. He is survived by his partner Davey Chastang; mother Marie Zalopany; brothers: Mark Zalopany and Steve (Terry) Zalopany; sisters: Lynn Gane and Lisa (Brent) Miller; nephews: Ryan (Elena) Zalopany, Charles “Chase” (Michelena) Zalopany, Michael Gane, Matthew Miller and William Miller; nieces: Lisa (Dustin) Taylor, Lauren (Zachary) Edwards and Kelly (Michael) Puhnaty; great niece Emma Roberts Edwards; great nephews: Francis "Frank" Taylor, Thomas Stephen Puhnaty, Taylor James Puhnaty; uncle and aunt Maxie and Ginny Zalopany; former partner John Benoit; devoted friend Jeff Vice and his beloved cocker spaniel, Kicker.
Pallbearers will be: Travis Bailey, Stevie Watford, Mark Hirschfeldt, Margaret Lambert, Frankie Grady and Rick LaTrace.
The family cordially invites friends to join them for a visitation on Saturday, April 5, 2025 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1453 Old Shell Road in Mobile, immediately followed by The Mass of the Christian Burial.
