Mary Atwood Middleton McAdams – age 94 and a lifelong resident of the Tanner Williams Community passed away on Monday, August 20, 2012. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Atwood was born August 5, 1918 to Felion and Mary Middleton. She and her brothers Louman, Luttrell, W.K., and Jewel were raised through a childhood that was built on love, hard work, God’s word, and a spirit of resilience during hard times. She had an attitude of generosity and compassion for those less fortunate. Her warm and caring concern and countless thoughts and deeds done for others throughout the years will surely continue to endear her to the hearts and minds of all who knew her. A retired registered nurse, she was the nurse at Semmes School before embarking on a 30 year career at Mobile Infirmary. In her retirement, Atwood enjoyed staying busy through her talents in Arts and Crafts, especially in quilting and needlework. She was a lifelong member of Tanner Williams United Methodist Church. Atwood was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Oscar Ray McAdams, D.V.M. She is survived by her only son, Michael Craig McAdams (Debbie) of Tanner Williams; granddaughters, Allison McAdams Webb (Bobby) and Leslie McAdams Collier (Kevin); great-grandson, Lane Webb many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held from Tanner Williams United Methodist Church on Thursday, August 23, 2012, at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 p.m. until the service hour. Interment will follow in Joyner Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tanner Williams United Methodist Church, 1550 Grand Bay Wilmer Rd. N., Mobile, AL 36608.
