Mary Carmen Kroutter Sosa, age 71, passed away at her home in Mobile, Alabama on November 21, 2024. Carmen was born in Houston, Texas on December 5th, 1952 to John and Emma Lee Kroutter of Mobile, Alabama. Following their time in Texas, the whole family returned home to Mobile where Carmen would attend St. Pius the X, Bishop Toolen Academy, and the University of South Alabama.
Carmen became an amazing elementary school teacher and touched the lives of many students through the classroom as well as coordinating talent shows, dance routines, and countless other extras over the years as a Gifted and Talented Teacher. Carmen went into education because of her love for children and because it gave her the flexibility to be an amazing single mom to her daughter, Emily Nicole Kroutter. Carmen loved the beach, bunko, live music, and a strong margarita.
She loved her partner and husband of the past twenty years, Fidel “Oscar” Sosa. She cherished their trips to Miami, Key West, and Cancun to visit their family. She loved her friends and always showed that friends are the family you choose for yourself. As a testament to that, her final days were filled with visitors showing an incredible legacy of long lived friendships. For Carmen, love was an action word. May we honor her legacy in how we love our family, friends, and each other.
She is survived by her beloved daughter, Nicole Kroutter of Austin, TX; her loving and devoted husband, Fidel Oscar Sosa of Mobile, AL and his family of Cancun, Mexico; her older brother John Kroutter, and his wife, Linda Kroutter and their sons Brian(Shelby) Kroutter and Alan(Aiden) Kroutter of Mobile, AL and Baton Rouge, LA.; her younger brother, Karl Kroutter of Mobile, AL; her niece, Erin Clarke of Mobile AL, and countless neighbors and friends she adored.

Clarke and his beloved wife, Kacey; her sister, Genise Kroutter; her niece, Christie Kroutter, and other relatives and friends that have gone ahead to await her in the universe. A memorial service will be held on Dauphin Island in the Spring of 2025.
