When we were young, too young to understand, Mama became a single parent, and with the aid of my grandparents, she persued a nursing degree. Some nights seemed lonlier than others, because Mama was away working the night shift at the hospital. But on the weekends she had off, she would pile the 4 of us in her "Blue Nova" and take us to Colonel Dixie, to the park to feed the ducks or to the beach for the day. Her children were her priority, and it was an eminent fact.  
Mom didn't remarry until we got older. Her and Dad provided a great home for all of us, provided a wonderful home and education. When I was 12-13, I asked her one day, did she still love me. She explained, "I do love you very much." Mama allowed us to grow, to learn on our own and make choices in our lives. She gave us wings to soar, but she was always there for us, to comfort & guide us when we needed her. This was her way of teaching independence, survival skills, to be self sufficent. She taught us strength with in ourselves, to respect others as well as ourselves, and to be compassionate towards mankind. Family was important and we carried on tradition.She taught me how to make the deviled eggs to take to all the holiday functions!! 
I was blessed to have this woman as my Mom. God created an angel when he made her. I thanked God every day to have her as my Mom because she was not only the best Mom a girl could ever wish for, but she came from old family tradition and this was how she raised us.  She was the most compasionate, most selfless, most understanding, and the one who I wanted to talk to when I felt bad.
On 10/30/2011 before we knew Mom was sick, I wrote to Mom on an index card- Mom, even though you don't have a trophy or a plaque on the wall to show for all the sacrifices or all the things you have done for us, there isn't a Nobel Peace Prize great enough to exemplify you with all the things you are worthy of recieving. You deserve so much more. I love you so much~ Dee
I miss you Mom

I first met Gi during my youth in Destin, FL.  She saw me about once a summer for several years and then more frequently as I would visit her granddaughter Maggie.  She has seen me throught many phases and stages of my life.  and I would like to mentio how just by knowing Gi how she has impacted my life positively. 
Gi has great values. She was compassionate, she had a big heart, she was loyal and family to her was of the upmost importance.  Anyone that knows Gi knows she loved her family moe than anything in the wolrd, and she raised her family with the sames values.  She raised her kids to be affectionante and not afraid to tell eachother how they feel, whether it be good or bad.  Thing like "I love you" are as frequent as hello and good between family and hugs, well i hope you like them because they come by the dozens.  In turn her kids have raised their childen with the same values.  these values may seem normal to many people, but I was not raised this way, to be so open.  But Maggie was, and Shele was, and Gi was.  and they taught me.  And without their guidance i would have been self destructive.  I wouldn't be where i am today.  Gi's love for her family and their ability to share that love with me saved me, and I thank God for people like Gi and their family and I will always be thankful for the time I had her in my life.

Such a sweet and selfless person. My sympathy to the family, especially Gerald, you lossed a best friend of 39+ years, your grief must be great.  I hope the words recorded in the Bible at Acts 9:36-41 and 24:15, give you and your family much comfort and encouragement.
