Lawrence C. Smith, 92, passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2018 in Mobile, AL. He is survived by his wife, Mary W. Smith; two daughters, Shannon Lackey (James) and Laura Smith; grandchildren, Robert Lackey (Lynn), Jennifer L. Allison (Matt), Ryan Lackey (Chezleigh); Daniel Lackey (Kaitlin), and Joey Lackey; fifteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., with a graveside service in Pine Crest Cemetery immediately following.
Mr. Smith was born in Hardeetown, Florida to William and Addie Smith. He married Mary Williams Smith on September, 17, 1955. They had two daughters, Shannon S. Lackey and Laura K. Smith.
He was "Papa" to 5 grandchildren: Rob, Jennifer, Joey, Ryan, Daniel, and their spouses; 15 great-grandchildren, Adiline, Colin, Nolan, Jayden, Evan, Logan Kate, Emmaleigh, Austin, Riley, Leighton, Savannah, Beckett, Landrey, Audrey, and Greyson.
Lawrence was a graduate of Murphy High School, and an Army Veteran of WWII. He worked for the GM&O and ICG Railroad for 42 years, and after retiring he worked for the Helmsing Leach Lawfirm for 30 years.
His interests included spending time with family, collecting glassward, working with plants in the yard, and just staying busy and active.
Pallbearers will include: Robert Lackey, Ryan Lackey, Daniel Lackey, James Lackey, Matthew Allison, and Larry Smith.
