Laura Mae Vickrey passed away on Tuesday morning, May 6, 2014, at the age of 88. She was born in Huxford, AL October 25, 1925. She graduated from what was then McCullough High School and attended Graceland University. She has been a resident of Mobile for the past 65 years. She worked for the FAA until her retirement after years of service. She has been a very active member of the Community of Christ church and served as secretary for both the congregation and district, as well as librarian, and lead soprano in the choir for many years. She loved her family and was a steady babysitter for her nieces and nephews and greats which are many. She was preceded in death by her parents C.B. Vickrey, Sr. and Laura Mae Bass Vickrey, her sisters Ardieth Vickrey and Winnogene Vickrey Eidem and one brother C.B. Vickrey, Jr. She is survived by two brothers Graydon Vickrey of Amory, MS and Jack Vickrey (Marcia) of Mobile and three sisters Cathryn Vickrey Gilbert of Panama City, FL, Elizabeth Vickrey Barbour (Richard, Sr.) of Mobile and Lanelle Vickrey Bell (Gene) of Macon, GA, Vivian Reynolds Vickrey (widow of C.B. Jr.)
Funeral services will be held from the Chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home at 10:00 AM, Friday, May 9, 2014 with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM. Evangelist Larry Steiner and Elder Crandall Barbour will be the ministers and pallbearers will be Brian Barbour, William Barbour, Gary Gilbert, Randy Gilbert, Landon Barbour and Crandall Barbour.Donations may be made to the Community of Christ of Mobile or the charity of choice.
