Joyce Elaine Jacobson Cross, 81, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, October 31, 2022 in Mobile, Alabama. Joyce was born to William H. Jacobson and Leona Murphy Jacobson on April 3, 1941, in Mobile. As a life-long Mobilian should, Joyce loved Mardi Gras, and never missed a year. She worked for Mertz Daycare for over 40 years – and she adored every minute of it. Joyce’s world revolved around her family, and the care and compassion she could instill in the children at the daycare. She never met a stranger, would take anyone into her home, and was one of the most generous souls that ever lived. Joyce’s time to shine was her big Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations with her family. She loved to sew, garden (primarily tomato plants), gumbo, and Alabama Football (Roll Tide!). Above all else, Joyce loved her family. She was the rock and foundation for them all, and so many surrogate children she worked with. Joyce was a wonderful, sweet woman, and will be greatly missed.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Billy Jacobson; and two sisters, Barbara Hoffman and Joan Pennington.
She is survived by her two daughters, Karen Roberts and Tammy Johnston; one son, Danny Jacobson; ex-husband, Terry Cross; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchild; one sister, Betty Evans; her favorite pup, Fido; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other cherished family and friends.
Visitation for Joyce will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, with a chapel service immediately following. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
