John D. Jernigan, also known as “JD” or John Jernigan, stepped into his eternal reward on June 11th, 2017. He was born in Brewton, Alabama on February 20th,1938. He is preceded in death by his father, Edward Jasper Jernigan, his Mother, Georgia Barnett Jernigan, his brother Recie Franklin Jernigan and his sister Gladys Jernigan Black. He is survived in death by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Singleton Jernigan, his daughter Rhonda Rivers and her husband Steve, daughter Kim O’Neal and her husband Rick, daughter Angie Hoover and her husband Steven, son Johnny Jernigan and his wife Karen and son Scotty Jernigan and his wife Stephanie. He had 13 grandchildren; Joshua Rivers and his wife Tabbata, Nichole Rivers, Adam, Christopher and Chey Hoover, John Curtis O’Neal and his wife Kelly, Daniel O’Neal, Richard O’Neal Jr. and Melanie O’Neal Baldwin and husband Michael Baldwin, John David, Abigail and Jacob Jernigan, Rachel, Carter and Sophie Jernigan.) He had 7 great grandchildren, Annabella, Alexandria, Andaleigha Tillman, Landry O’Neal, Penelope Rivers, Shelby and Raeleigh Baldwin. He is also survived by his brothers James Mason Jernigan and wife Carol of Mobile and Edward Lee Jernigan and wife Beverly in Rhode Island. He also had a host of nieces, nephews and many other friends and acquaintances.
John Jernigan was a graduate of WS Neal High School in 1957 in East Brewton, Alabama. He was also the long time employee and owner of Clower Electric Supply Company, an electrical supply company based in Mobile. He was employed with them for over 55 years. John loved his work, fishing, grilling for family events, working in his garden and Alabama Football. But his pride and joy was his family and his deep abiding love for his Lord Jesus Christ. John was also known for his hard and dedicated work ethic, but most of all his commitment to his Savior and his church. He was also so proud and grateful that all of his children and grandchildren are Christians and involved and serving in their churches. He and his wife Dorothy, helped as charter members in the establishment of West Mobile Baptist Church for which he was always so grateful.
A friends and family viewing will be held on Thursday June 15th from 9am-11am with a memorial service at 11am at the West Mobile Baptist Church located at 7501 Airport Boulevard in Mobile, Alabama. An internment will follow at Pine Crest West Memorial Gardens in West Mobile.
