While growing up in Mobile, John attended Little Flower Catholic School and McGill Institute. Upon graduating from high school and a quarter away at college, John joined the U.S. Army, serving with the 2nd Battalion (Airborne), 8th Calvary Regiment, 1st Calvary Division (Airmobile), U. S. Army, both stateside and abroad. After earning his Army Parachutist Badge, John quickly rose to the rank of Sergeant (E-5), ultimately serving as an infantry squad leader. Upon his deployment to Vietnam, John served with distinction, being awarded both The Combat Infantryman’s Badge and The Military Order of the Purple Heart. Upon his honorable discharge, John returned to attend the University of South Alabama, obtaining a degree in criminal justice. After graduation, John joined the U.S. Secret Service, ultimately reaching the rank of Assistant Special Agent in Charge, Honolulu Field Office, Honolulu, Hawaii. As a Special Agent, John traveled the world investigating financial crimes against U.S. interests and protecting U.S. Presidents, vice-presidents, senior U.S. Officials, and visiting foreign dignitaries. During his over 30-year illustrious career with the U.S. Secret Service, John earned numerous service awards and accolades to include Officer of the Year (1991), and met, became, and remained friends with many world leaders, both at home and abroad. An avid and excellent golfer, John loved spending his retirement time on the greens. More importantly, however, John loved his family and was dedicated to caring for them, especially his many nieces and nephews, who he actively mentored to be and do their best.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas Doyle, Jr. and Ethel Margaret (Peg) Lloyd Doyle, and his sister, Marion Colton Doyle Ramsey. He is survived by brothers Robert Lloyd Doyle (Peggy), Joseph Michael Doyle (Wilhelmina), Brian Douglas Doyle, Ph.D. and brother-in-law Otto Franklin Ramsey, Jr. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, his Pensacola golfing buddies and other dear friends and relatives.
Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home, 3155 Dauphin Street, Mobile, AL 36606 on Monday, April 12, 2021 from 11 am – 1 pm. Interment will follow in Catholic Cemetery of Mobile. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to a favorite charity.
