In loving memory of Dr. Joel Douglas "Doug" Ward, a beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather who passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the age of 81. Doug was born on July 31st, 1942 in Mobile, AL. He was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi and Auburn University in the College of Veterinary Medicine. He served as Captain in the United States Marine Corps and retired as Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army. Family meant everything to Doug and he especially cherished his role as a grandfather. He loved attending everyone's sporting and school events and he supported them in all their endeavors. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joel and Eula Ree Ward. He is survived by his beloved wife Carol McDonald Ward, brother Wayne Franklin Ward, his children Brent Douglas Ward (Shauna) and Carisa Ward VanCourt (George), his three stepdaughters Shannon McDonald Ladd (Woody), Sharon Elizabeth McDonald (Richard) and Lindsey McDonald Howell (Russ), his 11 grandchildren Hayden, Russell, Mattie, Bryce, Addison, Banks, Cadence, Monroe, Linen, Elise and Chapel and many other relatives and friends.
To celebrate Doug's life, a visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street in Mobile, AL on Thursday, November 2, 2023 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home Chapel. A military memorial service will follow at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort, AL at 1:00 p.m. Reception will be held at the home of Doug and Carol Ward: 1216 Macarthur Place Court in Mobile, AL 36609.
Doug will be deeply missed by his family and friends. May his soul rest in peace and may his memory live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
