Joe Hollis (Jodie) Little, Jr. passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2020. A native and life-long resident of Mobile, Alabama, he was the son of Dr. Joe Hollis Little and Dorothy Adams Little, both deceased. Jodie graduated from Murphy High School and Washington and Lee University, class of 1965. He then graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law with a Juris Doctor degree. He was admitted to the Alabama State Bar in 1968 and engaged in the practice of law from that time to the present. Through the years he participated in numerous organizations and associations related to his profession.
Jodie felt called to public service and lent his time and expertise to many civic endeavors and boards including the Metropolitan YMCA of Mobile, Senior Bowl Committee, Mobile County Wildlife and Conservation Association, Boy Scouts of America (Mobile Area Council), and Sunrise Rotary Club. He was a member of the Board of Directors and attorney for the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Inc. He was also a former general counsel to the Junior League of Mobile. Further, he was a trustee and board secretary of UMS-Wright Preparatory School. Jodie was a life-long member of Dauphin Way United Methodist Church, of which his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. L.G. Adams, Sr. and his aunt, Lillian Culpepper McGowin, were charter members. He served on the Finance Committee and the Administrative Board of Dauphin Way. He also served as a trustee of the United Methodist Children’s Home and as chairman of its board from 1983 – 1987. For years he was chairman of the Lillian C. McGowin Foundation.
An avid hunter, Jodie loved the woods and his dogs and enjoyed spending time with hunting buddies in the outdoors. He also relished the days spent at Ono Island and the water activities shared with family and friends. On weekdays he was a regular handball player at the Athelstan Club and the Moorer YMCA.
Jodie is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Lynn Meighan Little, his sons Joe Hollis Little, III and John Meighan Little, and his grandchildren, Catherine, Lillian, Jack, and Lucy. He is also survived by his sister, Dorothy Little Mosley.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Dauphin Way United Methodist Church in McGowin Hall, with a service immediately following at 1:00 p.m.
